WHAT WE DO

MAAW is a boutique firm with focused expertise providing advice to individuals, companies, trade associations, governments and international organizations in the “magic circle” of international competition, foreign investment, and international trade.

A pharmaceutical company who wants to sell its medicines in Africa or a mining firm venturing off to explore for minerals off the beaten track does not see itself as having a problem that falls into one of these practice areas. It sees a problem that needs to be resolved. Resolving that problem means identifying correctly the source of the problem and finding the right solution point within the magic circle to expeditiously resolve the problem. Sometimes that will involve negotiating with governments and other stakeholders and other times it will involve compliance training for employees and or developing corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategies.

MAAW also provides advice and technical assistance to governments and international organizations on legislative reform, market studies, capacity-building and training within the magic circle of international competition, foreign investment, and international trade.

HOW WE DO IT

MAAW works directly for individuals, corporations, trade associations, governments and international organizations and indirectly in alliance with law firms providing flexible/agile risk-based legal and policy advice that is client-centred, solutions-oriented and cost-effective. In the increasingly balkanized and siloed legal practice world, MAAW seeks to identify legal problems and risks and to develop strategies to solve or mitigate them by identifying linkages that often cut across different policy disciplines, legal specialties and legal systems.

Retaining a traditional law firm or hiring permanent specialized full-time, in-house counsel can sometimes be too expensive for companies struggling to make every dollar count in a climate where everyone needs to do more with less budgets and staff. MAAW can embed with in-house counsel to fill the gaps within your organization for special projects and short-term assignments by providing tailored and focused advice on legal and strategic issues within the magic circle of international competition, foreign investment, and international trade.
